Teach me, Lord, the way of your decrees, that I may follow it to the end. (Psalm 119:1) Bible Reading: Psalm 119:33-40
The Psalmist here is expressing a heartfelt desire – a desire not for “worthless things” but instead for the priceless treasure of a deeper understanding of God’s precepts! He recognises the intrinsic value there is in knowing, obeying and applying God’s Word.
It was 16th American President Abraham Lincoln, I believe, who said: “I believe the Bible is the best gift God has ever given to man. All the good from the Saviour of the World is communicated to us through this book.”
It’s through His Word that God conveys his will for us. So how else are we going to live wisdom-filled lives; lives that line up with the will of God if we don’t get to know His Word?
In Australia we are blessed to be able to gather freely and be exposed to the word of God in various ways, through preaching, singing, small group gatherings, youth meetings, etc. May we make the most of it, grabbing hold of it, digesting it, making it part of our lives, determining by God’s grace to follow it to the end.
Prayer: Speak Lord, I long to hear your word; Whether chiding, chastising or cheering Speak Lord, I need to hear your word, Along the right paths ever steering.
