DEVOTION:”Satisfied Even in The Desert”

Updated: Jan 30, 2018

The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land    and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. (Matthew 17:5)

Bible Reading: Isaiah 58:1-14

Have you watched the movie, “The Pursuit of Happiness”, starring real life father and son, Will and Jaden Smith? Will’s character struggles to find happiness. We find him literally running at various points in the movie. If only he can sell one more machine as a salesman, that would make him happy. Eventually, he is successful in becoming a broker, and he ends off by saying: “this part of my life is called happiness”. Highs and lows; mountain tops and valleys– whatever poetic descriptions we prefer to use, the bottom line is: we all go through good times and not-such-good times. However, these comforting words from Isaiah are reminders to us that we do not have to get to the next season of life to be happy, or attain that ever elusive big break. Right there in the desert with chapped lips and wearied limbs, we can praise through the pain, sing through the sorrow and worship through the worry. Why? The LORD will guide us always! He will satisfy our needs in a sun-scorched land.

Prayer: Lord, at times the going is tough, The desert testing and dry Thank you that you are always with me, Even when I don’t know the reasons why.
