DAY 14: "Gratitude" (Series: Advent Emotions)

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18

QWhat would happen if you focused on what you have instead of what you lack?

Gratitude shifts our focus from scarcity to abundance. Mary and Joseph could have easily been consumed by disappointment when they found no room at the inn. Instead, they embraced the humble stable as a place for God’s plan to unfold. Gratitude doesn’t mean ignoring hardship, but rather choosing to see the blessings within the struggle.

During Advent, we are invited to pause and reflect on the gifts we often take for granted—health, relationships, opportunities, and the beauty of God’s creation. Gratitude doesn’t require grand gestures; it’s found in the small, quiet moments where we recognize God’s provision and grace.

Advent gratitude is an invitation to worship. It’s an act of trust, acknowledging that God is at work even in circumstances that feel less than ideal. When we cultivate gratitude, we create space for peace and joy to grow.

Mental Health Moment

Gratitude has been shown to boost mental health and resilience. Start a daily gratitude practice: write down three things you’re thankful for, no matter how small. Over time, this simple habit can shift your mindset and improve your emotional well-being.

Let’s Reflect

What is one thing you are grateful for today?

• How can practicing gratitude change the way you approach this Advent season?

“Gratitude turns what we have into enough.” Anonymous

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the blessings You have placed in my life. Teach me to see Your hand at work in every circumstance. Help me to cultivate a heart of gratitude and to find joy in the gifts You provide, no matter how big or small. Amen.
